Back to school! I am not sure who is more excited, the kids or the parents!!!! One thing is for sure, starting school is very exciting for children. It will bring new experiences, new friends, and a new found independence.
It is important to give your child a good start. Take care of health needs. Make sure they have the required immunizations ( especially the 6th graders), and be sure to let teachers know any medications you child needs to take. Encourage helpful habits. Make sure they get plenty of sleep and head out to school after a good breakfast. Help your child learn to stick to a schedule. School days are full of routines. Having schedules at home will help them adjust to following schedules at school. Time management is an important skill to possess to be successful in school. Show them importance of staying on task and on time. Teaching your child to be more independent at home by giving them responsibilities will help them learn be responsible for themselves during the school day..
Be positive and share in the excitment of the start of the new school year. Show your interest. Ask your child about his or her favorite activity of the day. Praise them for their efforts and accomplishments. Lastly, be active in school life. When possible, attend open houses and other school or classroom programs. Volunteer to help out at school. Get to know your child's school and staff. If you have questions or concerns, contact your child's teacher. Both of you are working in the best interest of your child.

I am excited for the school year to begin and look forward to greeting familiar faces and getting to know new faces. It is a priviledge to be able to work with your children. Thank you for choosing WCDS for their education!
