1 December 2007
Dear Parents:
I am delighted and grateful to have been offered another three year term as Head of Wayne Country Day School. I deeply appreciate the opportunity to continue our work and partnership, and I look forward to more progress and more achievement for your students, for our faculty and staff, and for our school during the ensuing years.
A HUGE THANK YOU to all of you for your assistance in our Triennial Auction. When the dust had settled over the Live Auction and the Silent Auction, we had cleared an impressive $71,300 for the night! WOW! With that total added to our previous fundraising total, I am pleased to tell you that we have reached our Fundraising goal for this academic year! Thank you! I am optimistic that we can also reach our Annual Appeal goal as well. These funds make such a difference in our students’ experiences.
As we enter the season of colds, flu, and other illnesses, please keep your child at home if he or she is ill. We ask that he or she stay at home for at least twenty-four hours AFTER all symptoms have cleared. We share your concern of the recent discussions of the spread of the Methicillin-Resistant staphylococcus aureus (MSRA) virus, and the Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) as well. Know that our teachers wipe down all of our desks at the end of each day with disinfectant.
We are in the holiday season, and as we inch closer to vacation, the excitement here grows. Again this year we are teaming with St. Mary’s School in our Dove Tree project. The Department of Human Services has asked us to increase the number of children we serve to 300 this year, and I am sure that between our two schools, we can reach this ambitious goal. For those of you who are new this year, we ask that each of our families considers taking a dove from the front office window and purchases a new gift for the child described. Then wrap the gift and bring it back to the front office before Wednesday, 12th December. In addition to the Dove Tree, we also ask that each student considers making a contribution of $5 to benefit the Wayne County Humane Society building fund. We hope to raise a considerable sum to speed the construction of the new animal shelter.
Upper School parents…the final exam calendar is posted on our website, and is enclosed for your convenience. No luncheons are served during the exam days, except on Friday, 14th December. Please make arrangements to pick up your students after the last exam of the day.
Pre-School and Lower School parents…will follow the normal daily schedule, and luncheon will be offered through the 18th. Wednesday, 19th December is an early release day at 12.00 Noon. No luncheon or after school care will be provided on that date.
Please mark Friday, 14th December at 10.30AM on your calendar. Our Music Department will present our Holiday Concert that will feature our Pre-School and Lower School students and the new Upper School choir.
Classes will resume on Monday, 7th January 2008 at 8.00AM. Best wishes for a warm, wonderful holiday season… and a blessed and prosperous New Year to all! |
