Dear Parents:

Happy New Year 2008 to all!  As we pass through these first (very cold) days of January, know that we have started to gear up for the second semester.  We are excited to welcome three new students to WCDS, bringing our school’s total enrollment to 264 students and 173 families.

Junior parents…please do not forget our meeting this Tuesday at 5.30PM in the library.  This is our first college counseling meeting of this year, and Mrs. Shaw and I are looking forward to seeing you.  Please remember this meeting is NOT for the students…only parents.

Again this year, we will be holding a magazine subscription drive for those who would like to participate.  We’ll start this Wednesday and continue through the 18th January.  Participation is completely voluntary but if you subscribe to magazines and want to renew those subscriptions through our efforts, or if you would like to begin a subscription, our school receives a 50% commission.  (Last year we raised nearly $4,000 with this drive.)  And, as last year, we’ll award prizes to the top sales people.  If you would like, go to www.gafundraising.com to make an on-line order.

We will observe Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday on Monday, 21st January.  There will be no classes or childcare that day.

The week of 22-25 January is our Spirit Week.  Upper School students will observe a special schedule for those days and each day will feature a number of events.  We will culminate the week with our Talent Show on Friday at 2.15PM, and we hope to see many parents there.  The results of our Spirit Olympics will be announced at the Boys Varsity Basketball game against Oakwood.  We’ll update you with more information as the Spirit Week approaches.

Looking ahead to our vacations…  Please remember that we do not celebrate Presidents’ Day on Monday, 18th February.  We will be in session that day.  Our Winter Break begins on Thursday, 21st February at 3PM.  Classes resume on Monday, 3rd March.  Because of an early Easter this year, recall that we will be out of school for Easter only on Friday, 21st March and Monday, 24th March.  We’ll observe another long weekend by having no school on Monday, 21st April.

As we are now in the season of colds, flu, and other illnesses, please keep your child at home if he or she is ill.  We ask that he or she stay at home for at least twenty-four hours AFTER all symptoms have cleared.  Please call the school to let us know of your student’s absence.
