WCDS Wins the Math Competition!

Wayne Country Day School was represented by Charlie D. and Peter Y. at the annual Wayne County Fair math competition...and they SCORED! These talented WCDS students crushed their competitors in the High School Math Competition Small Schools Division, sponsored by Wayne Community College and the Wayne Regional Agricultural Fair. In addition to blue ribbons, the boys each received $75 awards. Congratulations to Charlie and Peter - you are one of the many reasons why we are proud to be part of the Wayne County Day School family!

Week of October 2 Athletic News

Week of October 2 This marks the end of the season for both JV soccer and JV volleyball. They will play their final games of the year on Monday. Both soccer team will be playing at Christ Covenant on Monday at 3:30 and 4:45. We are hosting a XC meet on Monday at 4:00 and hosting volleyball at 5:00 and 6:00. We will be honoring our senior volleyball girls on Monday before the 6 pm match. The gym will be closed starting Wednesday afternoon at 2 pm. The gym will be back open on Monday October 9 for volleyball practice. Dear Parents: We’ve just completed our eighth week of school and finally autumn is in the air! This coming Wednesday will be our last day of school before the Fall Family Weekend holiday. I hope you all have the opportunity to spend time together as a family during this holiday. Classes resume on Tuesday, 10 October. Friday, 13 October is the end of the First Quarter. Upper School parents (grades 7-12) please check your student’s PowerSchool™ account for the First Quarter grades on Monday, 16 October. The 5th Grade Chromebooks Have Arrived!

Hurray!!! Wayne Country Day School’s 5th grade class just got introduced to their new Chromebooks! While these students are clearly excited to get their hands on the new devices, they most likely do not understand today how access to these important tools will positively affect their academic achievements tomorrow. They do not yet know the power of digital exploration and online, real-time, collaboration with their classmates and teachers.They do not yet know that, with access to the Chromebooks, the walls of their classroom(s) just disappeared. Key Club at Kids Fest!

On Saturday, September 23, over a dozen members of the Wayne Country Day School Key Club took part in Kids Fest at the Berkeley Mall. The students set up a booth where children could make beaded bracelets. All of the WCDS volunteers (who also brought water to other booth operators and performed various behind-the-scenes tasks) were happy to spread some goodwill and cheer to the members of the community!

Week of September 25 Athletic News

Week of September 25 On Monday the XC team will be in Winterville at Boyd Lee Park for a run at 4:00. The JV Soccer team will be at New Life Christian in Rocky Mount at 4:30. Addresses for both of these events are below. For Tuesday, we have all home games. The tennis team will host Christ Covenant at 4:00, volleyball host Greenfield at 4 and 5, and varsity soccer host John Paul at 4:30. Then on Wednesday, the XC team will travel to Kinston to run at the Rotary Dog Park at 4:00. Make-Up Annotation Seminar

Ms. Whaley will be hosting a make-up annotation seminar on Wednesday, Sept. 27th, from 3:10-3:40, in room 306. This opportunity is open to all students and is HIGHLY recommended for students new to WCDS. The one-day seminar is designed to give students the tools needed to effectively annotate in any of their classes!

Hurricane Relief Efforts at WCDS

Wayne Country Day School's Key Club is collecting donations for the victims of Hurricane Harvey and now Hurricane Irma, as well. We are teaming up with the Red Cross Club at WCDS and will deliver the donations to Red Cross in Goldsboro at the end of September. There are donation boxes in the hallway of the new wing, and we encourage members and non-members of key club to bring in toiletries, canned foods, clothes, towels, blankets, etc. These boxes will be in the hallway until the end of September. Any upperclassman who brings in a donation should tell Jennifer or Langley what they brought in if they are interested in receiving service hours for their donation(s). In addition, each grade in

The Wild West Book Fair

Saddle Up and Read! at Scholastic's Wild West Book Fair coming to the WCDS Library September 22nd and closing up at 4 pm on September 29th. We welcome all our pardners to come and lasso a good book any time from 8 am to 4 pm each of those days and we are stayin' late (until 5:30pm) on Tuesday, the 26th, for the workin' ma and pa.

Moon Festival, Moon Cakes, and the Chinese Culture Club

Wayne Country Day School has a new club - The Chinese Culture Club. Its founder, Peter Y., is one of WCDS’s many international students and is a member of the class of 2019. With the support and leadership advice of Benny Z. and Gavin G., Peter started the club as a vehicle to share his Chinese heritage with the larger population of the school, provide a forum for engaging in conversations with his classmates about both the similarities and the differences that Upper School students experience regardless of global citizenship, and as a means of forging new friendships. Dear Parents: It’s hard to believe that we’re beginning our fifth week of school already! This year has seemed to fly by thus far; it won’t be long before our Fall Family Weekend (5th-9th October) is here! With the resumption of classes on Tuesday, 10th October, we bid an official good-bye to summer. In the Early Years and Lower School we’re looking forward to welcome our grandparents and grand- friends this Monday, 11th September. Beginning at 7:45 AM, we’ll have refreshments in the hallway and our honored guests will be able to visit the classrooms of their favorite students.
