Classes Resume: Thursday September 20, 2018

18 September 2018 Dear Parents: We’re busy cleaning everything up here at school. I want to thank the Edmondson, Hogarty, Preble and Michael Taylor families as well as Chris Gray and his entire family for doing yeoman’s work yesterday, cleaning the debris from the campus. Thank you to Dayton Meadows and his crew for cleaning up the water in the carpets and the floors, and for applying the antibacterial spray to ensure that we’ll have no mold. Also, a big thank you to Jason Pate from Wayne Electric who came out yesterday and today to ensure that our electrical system and our lighting was restored back to normalcy. I want to thank Kent Warren, former parent and Board chair, for responding s

No School: Tomorrow Tuesday September 18, 2018

17 September 2018 Dear Parents: I spoke too soon. Last night’s torrential downpour, followed by the tornado touchdown nearby this morning, has left nearly half of the classrooms at school in a flooded state. With water seeping through the ceiling and into the lighting, Wayne Electric has advised us to open all such lights and let them dry out. We are wet/dry vacuuming and mopping the flooring, but there is no way we will be ready to start school tomorrow. Indeed, the forecast calls for more rain today, tonight and tomorrow. Florence, PLEASE go away. I apologize for the inconvenience that this situation continues to cause, but we will not have school tomorrow nor is it realistic to suppose

Back to School Announcement

16 September 2018 Dear Parents: Whew! We dodged a major bullet! While Florence most certainly was a hurricane, I thank my lucky stars that she was not the intensity that I thought she was going to be. I hope all of you weathered the storm well, and that life is beginning to return to normal. I am happy to report that the school suffered no significant damage. There were several west-facing classrooms that were flooded, as well as a few classrooms in the new high school wing, but yesterday Coach Taylor, Mr. Snoddy and I played custodians and cleaned up the water. Dayton Meadows from High Standard Cleaning is here today, finishing up the wet/dry vacuuming. Chris Gray will be here tomorrow

Weather Advisory Update: Hurricane Florence

11 September 2018 Dear Parents: Hurricane Florence continues her track towards us, and as of NOAA’s latest update this morning at 11AM, we still appear to be in the bullseye. Rather than to second guess the progress of this storm, it is certain that this hurricane is going to be a major weather event. I have decided to close school for the next few days. If you know me, you won’t believe it; the guy that never closes school. But in light of the very serious nature of this storm, safety has to be the only consideration here. As you already know, tomorrow is an all-school workday for faculty which you all had expected. I am now adding Thursday, Friday, and Monday, for a total time span of
