WCDS Athletics - Lots to Brag About!

Wayne Country Day School made history last spring to finish the 2016-2017 school year. The school has now won the Wells Fargo Cup in back to back years. The Wells Fargo Cup is awarded to the school with the top athletic program within each of the three divisions in the NCISAA. I am so proud of our student-athletes and coaches for their hard work during the school year. Not only did we win the Wells Fargo Cup, we also won the CPIC Sportsmanship Award as the top school in the conference with the best sportsmanship.

We had another history-making Fall sports term in 2017 with two NCISAA State Championships and NCISAA State Runner-Up.

The boys cross country team won their first ever NCISAA 1A state championship. The boys cross country team was lead by Coach Rob Glass, CPIC Coach of the Year. A total of two boys made the all-state team: Cole A. and Connor B., which is the most from the same school in the NCISAA.

Happily, the girls captured their fifth consecutive state title in tennis. The WCDS girls tennis team won five in a row in the 1990’s and to now win five in a row again speaks to just how strong our girls tennis program is. Jennifer P., Nancy C., Langley B., and Eliza E. were named to the All-State team. Jennifer, Eliza, and Hannah all leave WCDS as 5-time state champions in tennis.

The girls Cross country team finished as the NCISAA 1A runner-up at the NCISAA championships. Gray Y. made the NCISAA All-State team.

The boys soccer team finished number four in the NCISAA. Ben C. was named CPIC Player of the Year and All-State. Other All-State selections were Luis L., Marquise N., and Nehemiya S.

The girls volleyball team received an eight seed in the NCISAA playoffs. This was the first time in ten years that the volleyball team was in the top eight in the NCISAA playoffs.

WCDS was one of only three schools in the 1A division of the NCISAA to receive top eight seeds in the NCISAA playoffs in girls tennis, boys soccer, and volleyball.

I am extremely proud of all the student-athletes for their success on the field, court, or trail and also in the classroom.

After the fall sports term, WCDS is currently in first place in the run for the 2017-2018 Wells Fargo Cup with 182.5 points.
