WCDS believes that every student should have the opportunity to learn computer science. We know it helps nurture problem-solving skills, logic and creativity. We believe that, by starting early, students will have a foundation for success in any 21st-century career path. So, we're proud to announce that, for the 3rd consecutive year, WCDS's Lower School students participated in the Hour of Code initiative! Modeling the practices of professional computer programmers, students in grades 1-4 worked with a coding partner to create games like Mine Craft, Star Wars, and Switch & Glitch using iPads and a block-based version of the JavaScript programming language. Fun and fascination ran rampant!

The Hour of Code is a global movement reaching tens of millions of students in 180+ countries. It started as a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify "code", to show that anybody can learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field of computer science. It has since become a worldwide effort to celebrate computer science, starting with 1-hour coding activities but expanding to all sorts of community efforts.

Wayne Country Day School is proud to be a part of this amazing initiative!
