With Hurricane Florence gaining strength and taking aim at our coastline, it seems apropos to review our inclement weather policy.
Generally, we will not cancel classes. We always defer to you—the parents—as to whether you believe conditions are safe enough to come to school. If you decide in the negative, there will never be any second guessing on our part, and no absence or tardy will be recorded on such days. If there is a significant weather event, effecting the entire area, we will not risk anyone’s safety. And, I think it’s safe to state that Hurricane Florence is such an event. Indeed, NOAA is already calling her an extremely dangerous storm.
We will monitor her progress through this week, but it appears that she will make landfall late Thursday. In all probability, we will close school at 3.00PM this Thursday, with no afterschool care nor year-round care available. In all probability we will remain closed on Friday and assess this situation over the weekend to see if a Monday, 17 September return date is feasible.
I will keep you updated as the storm progresses, and I will advise you of any changes regarding school closure with as much advanced warning as possible.
Thank you, Todd
