Important Update COVID-19 and Wayne Country Day Schedule
Dear Parents, Students, and Staff:
As you are aware, the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation in this nation and world has rapidly evolved and moved quickly this past week. We have been planning and preparing to move to virtual instruction should the need arise keeping safety as a priority for our students, staff, parents, and our community. As indicated in my email to parents on March 13, we have been monitoring the recommendations and best practices from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the Governor's Office and the NC Independent Schools Association.
After careful consideration and in view of decisions and recommendations made by state and federal governments, Wayne Country Day School will shift to virtual teaching and/or learning effective Wednesday, March 18, 2020. School will be closed for all students on Monday, March 16th and Tuesday, March 17th. Both Monday and Tuesday will be designated Teacher Workdays. All Year-Round programming is suspended effective immediately. Teachers will communicate by the end of the day on Tuesday, March 17th, with parents and students, with instructions on virtual learning that will begin on Wednesday, March 18th. All athletic practices will also be suspended until further notice. Please encourage all children to follow the “social distancing” guidelines and limit in-person contact. Access to school building will be limited and only granted by the headmaster and/or the Crisis Management Team. All before and after school activities (including but not limited to: Middle School Dance, Family Picnic, club meetings, Open House, etc.) are suspended until further notice.
On Friday, March 13th, several teachers and students practiced virtual classes on our newly acquired Zoom Platform. Please bear with us during these unprecedented and trying times for all. We understand this decision may cause several challenges and we appreciate your understanding and partnership in moving forward.
Please remember things change rapidly and we may need to announce more changes during the coming days and weeks. Every decision we make, will be made with the safety and welfare of students, staff, our families, and our community in mind.
If any student does not have access to the internet, please contact Mrs. Allie Barfield (email@example.com) immediately, so we can work on a solution.
Parents, please remind and encourage all upper school students to check their emails and Google Classrooms regularly over the next few days.
Please continue checking our website and your email for the most updated information. If you have any questions or concerns, the best way is to either contact your child’s teacher via their email (all email addresses may be found on our website: https://docs.google.com/document/u/1/d/e/2PACX-1vTyVmzrZ83kGdyGER9BvY11LKKhMfaD73l4n-z6SSmvMHrbT_6M1zdlNzq2vAUTbcyZUDk2S5pw2L7I/pub) or you may send an email to the general Wayne Country Day Account: (firstname.lastname@example.org).
We will continue to monitor all resources and information received to keep you updated. We will strive to communicate with you every day, as long as that is possible. Please also feel free to share this email with anyone who may not have gotten it. Also, if you hear someone is not receiving the school’s emails, please encourage them to check their spam folder.
Attached to this email, is the official State of North Carolina Executive Order No. 117, signed by Governor Roy Cooper on March 14, 2020, for your information.
Your continued understanding, assistance, patience, and partnership during this unusual world event is very much appreciated. Stay safe!
