Welcome from the Athletics Director

Welcome to Wayne Country Day School Athletics!  I view the opportunity to participate in athletics at any level as a privilege; a gift that should be valued and honored every minute of every practice, and every instant of every contest.  The opportunity to identify the highest possible athletic challenge, and then to commit to it with a team of equally invested coaches and teammates offers an educational experience with no parallel.  Competing with passion, courage, enthusiasm, and integrity are the hallmarks of a quality athletic program.

WCDS Athletics honors and celebrates the hours and hours of hard work that go into improving, that go into making ourselves better, making our teammates better, and making our teams better.  We emphasize taking care of each other, competing together, playing the game the right way, and having fun!

Student-athletes at WCDS have the opportunity to play for coaches with coaching and playing experience that are second to none.  Most significantly, they care deeply about the students at WCDS.

Athletic competition plays an essential role in both physical education and school life.  In providing these important experiences for its students, WCDS offers interscholastic competition with 25 teams for grades 7 through 12 to all students in good standing.  Teams are entered in competition with other schools at the middle school, junior varsity, and varsity levels.  

We believe that participation in sports provides an opportunity for personal growth by teaching discipline, self-sacrifice, and teamwork.  Representing one’s school is a responsibility and an arena in which to excel as well as the opportunity to belong to an extended group.

WCDS won the Wells Fargo Cup in 2016, 2017 and 2018, given to the top NCISAA athletic program in the state. WCDS has 21 NCISAA State Championships and has 23 NCISAA State Runner-Ups.

A WCDS education is special. The lessons, friendships, and experiences of WCDS Athletics make that education even more meaningful. We invite and encourage all students to join the ranks of the student-athlete! I, for one, am honored to serve as the Director of Athletics at WCDS, and I look forward to seeing you all on the ball fields, courts, courses, and tracks!
